The Apple iPhone 15 Plus is the larger of the two standard iPhone 15 models. Apple announced it on September 12, 2023, and it went on sale on September 22, 2023. It launched at $899 for the 128GB version. Apple stopped selling it on September 9, 2025, after the iPhone 17 launch. Its direct successor is the iPhone 16 Plus.
Design and display
The phone uses an aluminum frame, a color-infused glass back and a Ceramic Shield front. It measures 160.9 x 77.8 x 7.8 mm and weighs 201 grams. It is rated IP68, tested to a depth of 6 meters for up to 30 minutes.
The 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED panel has a resolution of 2796 x 1290 pixels at 460 ppi. It runs at 60Hz, so there is no high refresh rate. Peak brightness reaches 1600 nits for HDR content and 2000 nits outdoors. The Dynamic Island replaces the notch of the iPhone 14 Plus.
Performance
Inside is the Apple A16 Bionic chip. It has a 6-core CPU with two performance and four efficiency cores. A 5-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine complete the package. The phone has 6GB of RAM and comes with 128GB, 256GB or 512GB of storage. There is no memory card slot.
Cameras
The dual rear camera pairs a 48MP main sensor with a 12MP ultrawide. The main camera has an f/1.6 aperture and sensor-shift stabilization. It can also crop to a 12MP 2x view, which Apple counts as optical-quality zoom. The front 12MP TrueDepth camera supports autofocus and Face ID.
Both the rear and front cameras record 4K Dolby Vision video at up to 60 fps. Cinematic mode works at up to 4K at 30 fps.
Battery and charging
The battery has a capacity of 4,383 mAh, according to a regulatory filing. Apple rates it for up to 26 hours of video playback. Wired charging tops out at about 20W through the USB-C port. Apple says a 20W adapter reaches 50% in around 30 minutes.
Wireless charging supports MagSafe and Qi2 at up to 15W, and standard Qi at 7.5W. The box includes only a USB-C cable, with no power adapter. The port runs at USB 2 speeds.
Software and updates
The iPhone 15 Plus shipped with iOS 17. Apple does not publish a fixed number of update years. The phone does not support Apple Intelligence features. It uses eSIM in the US, while models sold elsewhere keep a SIM tray. Emergency SOS and Messages via satellite are supported.
Should you buy the iPhone 15 Plus?
- It suits buyers who want a large iPhone screen and long battery life.
- It fits people who want USB-C and the Dynamic Island on a non-Pro model.
- Gamers and heavy scrollers may prefer a phone with a high refresh rate.
Apple no longer produces it, so new units are limited to remaining stock. The iPhone 16 Plus replaced it in the lineup.
