The Apple iPhone 16 Plus is the 6.7-inch version of the 2024 base iPhone. Apple announced it on September 9, 2024, and sales began on September 20, 2024. It launched in the US at $899 for the 128GB model. Apple discontinued it on September 9, 2026, and it is no longer produced. It was the last Plus model Apple sold.
Design and display
The phone has an aluminum frame, a color-infused glass back and a Ceramic Shield front. It measures 160.9 x 77.8 x 7.8 mm and weighs 199 grams. Color options are Black, White, Pink, Teal and Ultramarine. The body carries an IP68 rating for water and dust.
The 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED screen has a resolution of 2796 x 1290 pixels at 460 ppi. It includes the Dynamic Island and peaks at 2,000 nits outdoors. However, it refreshes at only 60Hz and has no always-on mode. Like the smaller model, it adds the Action button and the Camera Control button.
Performance
The phone runs on the Apple A18, made on second-generation 3-nanometer technology. Its 6-core CPU pairs two performance cores with four efficiency cores. A 5-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine complete the chip. With 8GB of RAM, the phone supports Apple Intelligence. Storage comes in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB versions.
Cameras
On the back, a 48MP Fusion main camera uses an f/1.6 lens with sensor-shift stabilization. It also offers 12MP 2x telephoto shots cropped from the sensor. The 12MP ultrawide camera gains autofocus, so it can shoot macro photos. Because the lenses sit vertically, the phone records spatial photos and videos.
The rear cameras film up to 4K Dolby Vision at 60 fps. The 12MP TrueDepth front camera handles Face ID and also records 4K video at 60 fps.
Battery and charging
Brazilian certification documents list a 4,674 mAh battery, the largest in the base iPhone 16 lineup. Apple rates it for up to 27 hours of video playback. Wired charging reaches 50% in about 30 minutes with a 20W adapter. In addition, MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging run at up to 25W with a 30W adapter. The box contains only a USB-C cable.
Software and updates
The iPhone 16 Plus launched with iOS 18. Apple does not promise a set number of iOS versions. However, it commits to at least five years of security updates from the first sale date. US units use dual eSIM only, while most other markets keep a nano-SIM tray.
Should you buy the iPhone 16 Plus?
The iPhone 16 Plus fits buyers who want a large screen and long battery life. It avoids the higher price of a Pro model. It also brings the A18 chip, Apple Intelligence, Wi-Fi 7 and IP68 protection. Still, the 60Hz display and USB 2.0 port are clear limits. Apple no longer produces it and has not released a direct successor, so remaining stock is limited.
