The Google Pixel 7 Pro is the larger flagship of Google’s 2022 lineup. Google announced it on October 6, 2022, and sales began on October 13. It started at $899 in the US and at €899 in Germany. The phone is now discontinued, and the Pixel 8 Pro is its successor.
Design and display
The Pixel 7 Pro has a 6.7-inch LTPO OLED display with a 1440 x 3120 resolution at 512 ppi. Its refresh rate adapts up to 120Hz, and peak brightness reaches 1,500 nits. Gorilla Glass Victus covers the front and the back.
The frame is polished aluminum made from 100% recycled content. The phone measures 162.9 x 76.6 x 8.9 mm and weighs 212 grams. It has an IP68 dust and water rating. Colors were Obsidian, Snow and Hazel, with Hazel exclusive to the Pro.
Performance
The phone uses the Google Tensor G2 chip and a Titan M2 security coprocessor. Every version has 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM. Storage options are 128GB, 256GB and 512GB of UFS 3.1. There is no microSD slot.
An Ultra-Wideband chip supports precise location of compatible devices. Google says Tensor G2 speeds up speech and imaging tasks.
Cameras
The rear has three cameras. The 50MP main camera has an f/1.85 aperture and a 1/1.31-inch sensor. A 12MP ultrawide camera has autofocus and a 125.8-degree field of view. It also enables Macro Focus from about three centimeters.
The 48MP telephoto camera offers 5x optical zoom, and Super Res Zoom reaches 30x. The main and telephoto cameras have optical and electronic stabilization. The 10.8MP front camera and all rear cameras record 4K video at up to 60 fps.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 5,000mAh. Wired charging reaches up to 23W with Google’s 30W charger. Wireless charging reaches up to 23W on the Pixel Stand (2nd gen).
The phone works with Qi chargers and can charge other devices with Battery Share. A charger is not in the box. Google includes a USB-C cable, a Quick Switch Adapter and a SIM tool.
Software and updates
The Pixel 7 Pro launched with Android 13. At launch, Google promised three years of OS upgrades and five years of security updates. In December 2024, Google extended OS upgrades to five years as well.
Unlocking uses an under-display fingerprint reader or Face Unlock. Other features include stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 6E in many markets, Bluetooth 5.2 and NFC. It takes one nano-SIM and an eSIM.
Should you buy the Pixel 7 Pro?
The Pixel 7 Pro suits buyers who want a large screen and a 5x telephoto camera. It also offers 12GB of RAM and a long update window. However, it is no longer produced, and new units are scarce. The Pixel 8 Pro replaced it in Google’s lineup.
