The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is the second book-style foldable from Google. It was announced on August 13, 2024, and went on sale on September 4, 2024. The US price started at $1,799 for 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Google no longer sells it on the Google Store, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold has taken its place.
Design and display
Folded, the phone measures 155.2 x 77.1 x 10.5 mm. Unfolded, it is 5.1 mm thin, and it weighs 257 g. The frame and hinge cover use aluminum, while Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protects the back and the outer screen. The phone has an IPX8 water rating but no dust rating.
Inside, an 8-inch Super Actua Flex OLED panel runs at 2076 x 2152 pixels. It is an LTPO screen, so the refresh rate moves between 1 and 120Hz. Outside, a 6.3-inch Actua OLED with a 1080 x 2424 resolution handles quick tasks. Both screens reach up to 2,700 nits at peak.
Performance
The phone runs on the Google Tensor G4, paired with a Titan M2 security chip. Every version has 16GB of RAM. Storage options are 256GB and 512GB, with no microSD slot. Reports show the storage uses the UFS 3.1 standard.
Cameras
The rear setup has three cameras. The main one uses a 48 MP sensor with an f/1.7 lens and optical stabilization. Next to it sits a 10.5 MP ultrawide with Macro Focus. A 10.8 MP telephoto adds 5x optical zoom.
In addition, there are two 10 MP selfie cameras, one on each screen. Both now support Face Unlock. The rear cameras record 4K video at up to 60 fps, and the front cameras do the same. Features include Add Me, Made You Look and Dual Screen Preview.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 4,650 mAh. Wired charging tops out at 21W, which is slower than on the other Pixel 9 models. Wireless charging is limited to 7.5W. However, the phone does not work with the Pixel Stand because of its coil position. Battery Share is not listed for this model, and no charger comes in the box.
Software and updates
The phone launched with Android 14. Google promises seven years of OS, security and Pixel Drop updates. That support counts from the first US sale date on the Google Store. Satellite SOS is available in the US, and the first two years of service cost nothing extra.
Should you buy the Pixel 9 Pro Fold?
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold suits buyers who want a large inner screen and a long update window. It also has a normal-width outer screen, Wi-Fi 7 and stereo speakers. On the other hand, the charging speeds are low for its class. Since Google no longer produces it, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is the current model. Still, some stores sell remaining new units.
