The HONOR 70 is a slim upper mid-range phone. It has a curved OLED screen and a 54MP Sony IMX800 main camera. HONOR announced it in China on May 30, 2022, and sales began there on June 7. The global launch followed at IFA Berlin on September 2, 2022. In Germany, the launch price was €549 for the 8GB + 128GB version. The phone is now discontinued. It is out of stock in HONOR’s UK store and gone from the current lineup.
Design and display
The body measures 161.4 x 73.3 x 7.91 mm and weighs 178 g. Two large circular camera rings define the back. The front and back are curved, and the frame is plastic.
The 6.67-inch OLED panel has a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels. Its refresh rate goes up to 120 Hz. It covers the DCI-P3 color gamut, shows 1.07 billion colors, and supports HDR10+. HONOR does not list an IP rating.
Four colors were sold: Crystal Silver, Icelandic Frost, Emerald Green and Midnight Black. Crystal Silver has a diamond pattern on the back, while Emerald Green uses matte AG glass. Global launch reports name silver, green and black, so availability of Icelandic Frost varied by region.
Performance
The phone runs on the Snapdragon 778G+, a 6 nm chip with eight cores. Its top speed is 2.5 GHz. Its graphics processor is the Adreno 642L.
Global models have 8GB of RAM with 128GB or 256GB of storage. In China, HONOR also sold 12GB + 256GB and 12GB + 512GB versions. There is no microSD slot, so storage cannot be expanded.
Cameras
The main camera uses a 54MP Sony IMX800 sensor with a size of 1/1.49 inches. Its lens has an f/1.9 aperture. It relies on electronic stabilization and has no optical stabilization. A 50MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera also handles macro shots, and a 2MP depth camera completes the rear setup.
The front camera has 32MP and an f/2.4 lens. Rear video goes up to 4K at 30 fps, and front video goes up to 1080p. The Solo Cut mode records a full scene and a second video that follows one chosen person.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 4,800 mAh. Wired charging reaches 66W, and a 66W charger comes in the box. HONOR says nothing about wireless charging on its specs page, and reviews confirm the phone lacks it.
Software and updates
The HONOR 70 launched with Magic UI 6.1 based on Android 12. Reviews report a promise of two Android upgrades and three years of security updates. That support window was short compared with many newer phones, so buyers should check the current patch level first.
Should you buy the HONOR 70?
The HONOR 70 is no longer produced, and its successor is the HONOR 90. It may suit buyers who find a new unit at a low price. Its strengths are a light body, a curved OLED screen and fast charging. However, it has a single speaker, no water resistance rating, no wireless charging and no microSD slot. Anyone who wants long software support should look at a newer model.
