The HONOR Magic4 Pro is a 2022 flagship phone. HONOR announced it at MWC in Barcelona on February 28, 2022. In Europe, it launched at €1,099 for the 8 GB + 256 GB version. In the UK, it cost £949.99. The phone was not sold in the US through official channels. It is now discontinued, and the Magic5 Pro replaced it.
Design and display
The Magic4 Pro has a 6.81-inch curved OLED screen with a resolution of 1312 x 2848 pixels. It uses an LTPO panel with an adaptive refresh rate from 1 Hz to 120 Hz. HONOR also lists HDR10+ support and 1920 Hz PWM dimming. The body measures 163.6 x 74.7 x 9.15 mm and weighs about 215 grams.
The phone is rated IP68 for dust and water resistance. Glass versions came in Black, White, Gold and Cyan. An Orange version with a vegan leather back was also sold. White and Orange were mainly offered in China, while the UK and Germany got Black and Cyan.
Performance
Inside is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, a 4 nm chip. Its fastest core runs at 3.0 GHz, and the GPU is the Adreno 730. Europe got 8 GB of RAM with 256 GB of storage. A 12 GB + 512 GB model was also announced, and China added a 12 GB + 256 GB option. There is no microSD card slot.
Cameras
The rear camera system has three lenses. The main camera uses a 50 MP sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and a 1/1.56-inch size. It has no optical stabilization. A 50 MP ultrawide camera covers a 122-degree field of view.
The third lens is a 64 MP periscope telephoto with 3.5x optical zoom and OIS. Digital zoom goes up to 100x. HONOR also added a laser focus sensor and a flicker sensor. On the front, a 12 MP camera sits next to a 3D depth camera for secure face unlock. Both the rear and front cameras record 4K video.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 4,600 mAh. Wired charging reaches 100 W, and a 100 W charger came in the box. The phone also supports 100 W wireless charging. However, the wireless charger is a separate purchase.
Software and updates
The Magic4 Pro shipped with Android 12 and Magic UI 6.0. Android Authority reported that HONOR promised two years of OS and security updates at launch. That promise is short compared with many 2022 flagships. Other features include an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader, stereo speakers, NFC and an IR blaster. There is no headphone jack.
Should you buy the HONOR Magic4 Pro?
The Magic4 Pro is no longer produced, so new units are hard to find. It suits buyers who want fast wired and wireless charging, a periscope zoom camera and 3D face unlock. Keep in mind that its software support was short. If you want a newer HONOR flagship, look at the Magic5 Pro.
