The Huawei Mate 60 Pro is a 2023 flagship phone that Huawei sold only in China. It went on sale on August 29, 2023, without a launch event. Sales began through an early-access program on Huawei’s online store. In China, prices started at 6,499 yuan for the 12GB + 256GB version. Huawei told Android Authority it had no plans for a global launch. The phone is now discontinued, and the Mate 70 Pro took its place.
Design and display
The phone has a 6.82-inch curved OLED screen with a 2720 x 1260 resolution. It uses an LTPO panel, so the refresh rate adapts from 1Hz to 120Hz. Second-generation Kunlun Glass protects the front.
The body measures 163.65 x 79 x 8.1 mm and weighs about 225 grams. It is rated IP68 for dust and water resistance. Huawei offered four colors: Yachuan Green, Baisha Silver, Nannuo Purple and Yadan Black. The black and purple versions have a vegan leather back. The green and silver versions use a fiber material.
Performance
Inside is the Kirin 9000S, a 7nm chip made in China. Huawei did not name the chip on its website, but reviews and benchmark listings confirmed it. The CPU has eight cores with a top speed of 2.62 GHz, and the GPU is the Maleoon 910.
Every version has 12GB of RAM. Storage options are 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. You can add up to 256GB through Huawei’s own NM card, which shares a slot with the second SIM. The phone works on 5G networks, although Huawei did not list 5G in its specs.
Cameras
The rear setup has three cameras. The 50MP main camera has a variable aperture from f/1.4 to f/4.0 and optical stabilization. Next to it are a 12MP ultrawide camera and a 48MP telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom.
The telephoto lens has an f/3.0 aperture and optical stabilization. It also works as a macro camera. On the front, a 13MP ultrawide selfie camera sits next to a 3D depth sensor for secure face unlock.
Battery and charging
The Mate 60 Pro has a 5,000mAh battery. It supports 88W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. It can also charge other devices wirelessly at up to 20W.
The phone was the first mass-market smartphone to support satellite calls. This feature uses the Tiantong satellite system and needs a China Telecom SIM card. It can also send messages through the BeiDou system.
Software and updates
The phone launched with HarmonyOS 4.0. It does not include Google services. Huawei has not published a fixed promise of OS or security update years for this model.
Should you buy the Mate 60 Pro?
The Mate 60 Pro is no longer produced, and Huawei’s official store no longer sells it. It was made for buyers in China who want satellite calling. It also offers a large battery and fast wired and wireless charging. Buyers outside China should note the missing Google apps and the lack of a local warranty. Anyone shopping for a new Huawei flagship can look at the Mate 70 Pro instead.
