The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion is the most affordable model of the first Edge 50 lineup. Motorola announced it on April 16, 2024, together with the Edge 50 Ultra. In Europe, it launched at €399, and in the UK at £349.99. It reached India in May 2024. The phone is not sold in the US.
Design and display
The phone has a curved 6.7-inch pOLED screen with a 2400 x 1080 resolution. It refreshes at up to 144Hz and reaches 1,600 nits at peak. Gorilla Glass 5 protects the front. The screen supports 10-bit color and the DCI-P3 color space.
Each color uses its own back material. Forest Blue has a PMMA (acrylic) back, Hot Pink uses vegan suede, and Marshmallow Blue uses vegan leather. The phone is 7.9 mm thick and weighs 175 grams. It is rated IP68 for dust and water.
Performance
A Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 powers the phone, with an Adreno 710 GPU. Storage is UFS 2.2. In Latin America, some versions use a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 instead. There is no microSD slot.
The European model supports Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2, while the Indian model lists Wi-Fi 6. NFC is included. The USB-C port runs at USB 2.0 speeds. The phone takes one nano-SIM and one eSIM.
Cameras
The rear has two cameras. The main camera uses a 50MP sensor with an f/1.88 lens and OIS. A 13MP ultrawide covers a 120-degree view and works as a macro camera. The front camera has 32MP. Both sides record 4K video at 30 fps. The main camera can also film slow motion at 1080p and 120 fps. Laser autofocus helps the main camera focus in low light.
Battery and charging
The battery holds 5,000 mAh, more than the Edge 50 Pro and Edge 50 Ultra. It charges at up to 68W, and the charger comes in the box. There is no wireless charging.
Software and updates
The phone launched with Android 14 and a near-stock interface. Motorola promises three Android upgrades and four years of security updates. Stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos are also included.
Should you buy the Edge 50 Fusion?
The Edge 50 Fusion suits buyers who want a large 144Hz screen and an IP68 body. Its big battery also comes at a mid-range price. Its 68W charger is included, and the phone weighs only 175 grams. However, it has no telephoto camera and no wireless charging. The European model also uses older Wi-Fi 5, and the phone is not sold in the US.
