The Motorola Razr 2024 is a flip-style foldable phone announced on June 25, 2024, alongside the Razr+ 2024. It went on sale unlocked in the US on July 24, 2024, at $699.99. The only configuration has 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Outside the US, the same phone is sold as the Motorola Razr 50. It sits below the Razr+ 2024 as the more affordable model of the 2024 lineup.
Design and display
The main screen is a 6.9-inch pOLED panel with a 2640 x 1080 resolution and 413 ppi. It refreshes at up to 120 Hz, supports HDR10+ and reaches a peak of 3,000 nits. When the phone is closed, a 3.6-inch pOLED cover display with a 90 Hz refresh rate shows apps, widgets and Google’s Gemini app.
The cover display is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. The frame is 6000-series aluminum, and every color has a vegan leather back. Closed, the phone measures 88.08 x 73.99 x 15.85 mm and weighs about 188 g. It is rated IPX8, so it handles fresh-water submersion, but it has no dust rating.
Performance
The phone runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 7300X, a 4 nm chip built for devices with two screens. It pairs with 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256 GB of UFS 2.2 storage. There is no microSD slot. Connectivity includes 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC and a USB-C 2.0 port.
Cameras
On the back, a 50 MP main camera with an f/1.7 aperture and optical image stabilization sits next to a 13 MP ultrawide camera. The ultrawide also handles macro shots. Both rear cameras work as selfie cameras through the cover screen. Inside, a 32 MP front camera sits in a hole-punch cutout. The main camera and the selfie camera record 4K video at 30 fps.
Battery and charging
A 4,200 mAh battery powers the phone. It supports 30 W wired charging and 15 W wireless charging. In Europe and Australia, a 68 W charger comes in the box.
Software and updates
The Razr 2024 launched with Android 14 and Motorola’s Hello UX interface. Motorola promises three major Android upgrades and four years of bi-monthly security updates. The cover screen supports Gemini, Google Photos, Spotify panels and custom clock faces.
Should you buy the Razr 2024?
The Razr 2024 suits buyers who want a flip phone with a large, usable cover screen at a lower price than most foldables. It offers wireless charging, stereo speakers and water resistance. However, its mid-range chip trails the Razr+ 2024, and the software support is shorter than on many rivals. Its successor, the Razr 2025, is also available.
