The OPPO Find X5 Pro is a flagship phone announced on February 24, 2022. It went on sale in China on March 3, 2022, and reached Europe and the UK later that month. In Europe, it cost €1,299 for the 12 GB + 256 GB version, and the UK price was £1,049. It was not sold in the US. The phone is now discontinued, and the Find X6 Pro is its successor.
Design and display
The Find X5 Pro uses a one-piece ceramic back that curves up into the camera bump. An aluminum frame sits between the back and the front glass. The phone measures 163.7 x 73.9 x 8.5 mm and weighs 218 g. It carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.
It came in Glaze Black and Ceramic White, both with ceramic backs. China also got an Aqua Blue version with a vegan leather back. That version is lighter at 195 g but slightly thicker at 8.8 mm.
The 6.7-inch AMOLED display has a resolution of 3216 x 1440 pixels and 525 ppi. Its LTPO panel adjusts the refresh rate from 1 Hz to 120 Hz. OPPO rates its peak brightness at 1,300 nits. Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protects the screen.
Performance
The phone runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 with an Adreno 730 GPU. It pairs 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM with 256 GB or 512 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Europe and the UK got only the 256 GB version. There is no microSD slot.
OPPO also added its own MariSilicon X imaging chip. It handles photo and video processing, such as night video. China also got a separate Find X5 Pro Dimensity Edition. It uses a MediaTek chip and drops MariSilicon X.
Cameras
The rear setup was co-branded with Hasselblad. Both the main and ultrawide cameras use 50 MP Sony IMX766 sensors. The main camera has an f/1.7 lens and five-axis stabilization that combines sensor shift with lens OIS. The ultrawide covers a 110-degree view and can focus at 4 cm for close-ups.
A 13 MP telephoto camera adds 2x optical zoom. On the front, there is a 32 MP selfie camera. The rear cameras record 4K video at up to 60 fps, while the front camera tops out at 1080p.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 5,000 mAh, split into two cells. The phone supports 80W SUPERVOOC wired charging, and the charger came in the box. It also supports 50W AIRVOOC wireless charging with OPPO’s own pad and 10W reverse wireless charging.
Software and updates
The Find X5 Pro launched with ColorOS 12.1 based on Android 12. Reports at launch described the update promise differently. One review cited two years of updates plus a third year of security patches. Another cited three Android upgrades and four years of security updates.
Should you buy the Find X5 Pro?
The Find X5 Pro is no longer produced, so new units are hard to find. It still suits buyers who want a ceramic build, IP68 protection and fast wired and wireless charging. Its Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip is now two generations old. If you want a newer OPPO flagship, look at the Find X6 Pro or later models.
