The OPPO Reno12 Pro 5G is a mid-range phone. OPPO announced it for Europe and global markets on June 18, 2024. It went on sale in the UK in June 2024 at £499 for the single 12GB and 512GB version. The phone focuses on a slim design, three 50MP cameras and a set of AI photo tools. It is not sold in the US. A Chinese phone also named Reno12 Pro launched in May 2024, but it uses a different chip.
Design and display
The Reno12 Pro 5G has a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen. Its resolution is 2412 x 1080 pixels, or 394 ppi. The panel curves gently on all four sides and refreshes at up to 120Hz. OPPO rates its brightness at up to 1,200 nits in sunlight. Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protects the display.
The body measures about 161.5 x 74.8 x 7.4 mm and weighs about 180 grams. The back is glass, and an internal alloy framework adds strength. The phone carries an IP65 rating for dust and water splashes. It comes in Space Brown, Sunset Gold and Nebula Silver.
Performance
The phone runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 7300, which OPPO calls the Dimensity 7300-Energy. It is built on a 4nm process and uses an Arm Mali-G615 GPU. Storage is UFS 3.1, and a hybrid slot accepts a microSD card. Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC and an infrared blaster are on board.
Cameras
The rear setup has three cameras. The main sensor has 50MP, an f/1.8 lens and optical image stabilization. A 50MP telephoto camera offers 2x optical zoom for portraits. An 8MP ultrawide camera covers a 112-degree field of view. On the front, a 50MP selfie camera has autofocus. Both the rear and front cameras record video at up to 4K and 30 frames per second.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 5,000mAh. OPPO supports 80W SUPERVOOC wired charging, but only with its own chargers. There is no wireless charging. In the UK, the box does not include a charger.
Software and updates
The Reno12 Pro 5G launched with ColorOS 14.1 based on Android 14. OPPO adds AI tools such as AI Eraser, AI Clear Face and AI Studio. Some features need an OPPO account and an internet connection. Notebookcheck reports a plan for three years of OS updates and four years of security updates. OPPO has not published that promise on the product page.
Should you buy the Reno12 Pro 5G?
The Reno12 Pro 5G suits buyers who want a light phone with a 2x telephoto camera. It also offers fast 80W charging and expandable storage. However, it lacks wireless charging, and its IP65 rating protects only against splashes. OPPO has since launched the Reno13 Pro 5G as its successor, so stock of this model may be limited.
