The POCO F4 is a 5G phone with a 120Hz AMOLED screen and a Snapdragon 870 chip. POCO announced it on June 23, 2022, and sales began on June 27. In Europe, it launched at €399.90 for the 6GB + 128GB version. The phone is now discontinued, and every version is out of stock in POCO’s European stores. It builds on the REDMI K40S from China. However, it has a 64MP main camera instead of a 48MP one.
Design and display
The POCO F4 has flat edges, a glass back and a plastic frame. It measures 7.7mm thick and weighs 195g. POCO called it the thinnest phone in its series at launch. Its IP53 rating covers dust and light splashes, not submersion.
The 6.67-inch AMOLED panel has a 2400 x 1080 resolution and refreshes at up to 120Hz. It reaches 1,300 nits at peak and supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Gorilla Glass 5 protects the front, while the back has no named glass protection. The phone was sold in three colors worldwide: Night Black, Nebula Green and Moonlight Silver.
Performance
The phone uses the Snapdragon 870, a 7nm chip. Its top CPU speed is 3.2GHz, and the GPU is an Adreno 650. Geekbench 6 results for this model have a median near 1,140 single-core and 3,080 multi-core. Europe and the UK received 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB versions. India also received 8GB + 128GB and 12GB + 256GB versions. All versions use LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.1 storage, and there is no microSD slot.
Cameras
The rear setup has three cameras. The 64MP main camera has an f/1.79 lens and optical stabilization. An 8MP ultrawide with a 119-degree view and a 2MP macro camera complete the set. There is no telephoto camera. Rear video goes up to 4K at 60fps. The 20MP front camera sits in a small punch-hole and has an f/2.45 lens.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 4,500mAh. Wired charging reaches 67W, and a 67W charger comes in the box. POCO quotes a full charge in 38 minutes, based on its internal testing. Wireless charging is not supported, and neither is reverse wireless charging.
Software and updates
The POCO F4 launched with MIUI 13 on Android 12. POCO made no public long-term update pledge at launch. Xiaomi’s security update list ends support on June 27, 2025. That is three years after the phone went on sale. As a result, the phone no longer receives official security updates.
Should you buy the POCO F4?
The POCO F4 is no longer produced, so a new unit is hard to find. Its direct successor is the POCO F5. A used unit may suit buyers who want a 120Hz AMOLED screen and fast charging. It also has stereo speakers and an IR blaster. However, its security support has ended, which matters for banking and work apps. It also has no headphone jack or wireless charging, and its water protection is limited.
