The Samsung Galaxy A13 is a budget 4G phone announced on March 4, 2022. It replaced the Galaxy A12 in Samsung’s entry-level lineup. In the US, the unlocked model launched at $189.99 with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. Samsung no longer sells it, and the Galaxy A14 is its successor.
Design and display
The phone has a plastic frame and a glossy plastic back. It measures 165.1 x 76.4 x 8.8 mm and weighs 195 g. The front uses a 6.6-inch LCD with a small V-shaped notch for the selfie camera.
The screen has a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2408 pixels, or about 400 ppi. It runs at 60 Hz and sits under Gorilla Glass 5. There is no official water or dust rating. Samsung sold it in Black, White, Blue and Peach.
Performance
The original model uses the Exynos 850, an 8 nm chip with eight Cortex-A55 cores. RAM options range from 3 GB to 6 GB. Storage comes in 32 GB, 64 GB or 128 GB of eMMC memory. A dedicated microSD slot accepts cards up to 1 TB.
A later version, model SM-A137F, arrived in late 2022 with a MediaTek Helio G80 chip instead. It keeps the same name and design. In Geekbench 6, the Exynos model scores about 224 single-core and 983 multi-core.
Cameras
The rear has four cameras. The main sensor has 50 MP and an f/1.8 lens. It is joined by a 5 MP ultrawide, a 2 MP macro and a 2 MP depth camera. The front camera has 8 MP and an f/2.2 lens.
Both the rear and front cameras record video at up to 1080p and 30 fps. The main camera has no optical image stabilization.
Battery and charging
A 5,000 mAh battery powers the phone. It supports wired charging at up to 25 W with Samsung’s Super Fast Charging adapter. In the US and Europe, no charger came in the box. There is no wireless charging.
Software and updates
The Galaxy A13 shipped with Android 12 and One UI 4.1. Samsung promised two Android upgrades and four years of security updates. The phone later received Android 14 with One UI 6.
It also includes NFC for mobile payments, a side-mounted fingerprint reader and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0 handle wireless connections. Audio comes from a single speaker.
Should you buy the Galaxy A13?
The Galaxy A13 is discontinued and no longer produced. Its update period has also ended, so it no longer gets new security patches. Buyers who need ongoing support should look at the Galaxy A14 or a newer Samsung model.
For current owners, it remains a simple phone. It offers a sharp screen, a large battery and expandable storage. Its main limits are modest performance, slow eMMC storage and 4G-only networking.
