The Samsung Galaxy A23 5G is a budget 5G phone that Samsung introduced in August 2022. It reached the US on September 1, 2022. The starting price was $299.99 for 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. In Germany, the same version launched at €299. The phone is now discontinued, and Samsung ended its software support in 2026.
Design and display
The phone has a 6.6-inch LCD with a resolution of 1080 x 2408 pixels. Samsung calls it an Infinity-V Display, with a small notch for the selfie camera. The refresh rate adapts up to 120Hz, which was rare for this price in 2022. Gorilla Glass 5 protects the screen.
The frame and the matte back are plastic. The body measures 165.4 x 76.9 x 8.4 mm and weighs 197 grams. Samsung sold it in Black, White, Light Blue and Orange. The US version came only in Black, and color choice varied by market.
Performance
Inside is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695, a 6 nm chip with an Adreno 619 GPU. Most versions pair it with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB or 128 GB of UFS 2.2 storage. Malaysia also got an 8 GB / 128 GB model. A dedicated microSD slot adds up to 1 TB of space.
Connectivity includes sub-6GHz 5G, Wi-Fi 5, NFC and a USB-C 2.0 port. The phone keeps a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The fingerprint reader sits in the power button on the right side.
Cameras
The rear setup has four cameras. The 50MP main camera uses an f/1.8 lens with optical image stabilization. It is joined by a 5MP ultrawide, a 2MP macro and a 2MP depth camera. The front camera has 8MP.
Video recording tops out at 1080p at 30 fps on both the rear and front cameras. There is no 4K mode.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 5,000 mAh. Wired charging reaches 25W, but the charger is sold separately. There is no wireless charging.
Software and updates
The phone shipped with Android 12 and One UI 4.1. It later received updates to Android 13 and Android 14 with One UI 6. Samsung stopped releasing software updates for it in 2026.
Should you buy the Galaxy A23 5G?
The Galaxy A23 5G is no longer produced, and it no longer gets security patches. That makes it a weak choice as a new main phone today. Its strengths were the 120Hz screen, the stabilized main camera, the headphone jack and the large battery.
If you find one, treat it as a basic backup device. Buyers who want current updates should look at a newer Galaxy A model instead.
