The Samsung Galaxy A25 5G is a mid-range phone that Samsung announced in Vietnam on December 11, 2023. Sales began there on December 16. In January 2024, it reached the US at $299.99 for the 6 GB / 128 GB model. In Germany, it launched at €299. The phone is now discontinued. Samsung no longer sells it in its US, UK and German stores, and the Galaxy A26 5G replaced it.
Design and display
The Galaxy A25 5G has a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 1080 x 2340 resolution. The refresh rate goes up to 120 Hz, and Samsung rates the peak brightness at 1,000 nits. A small notch at the top holds the selfie camera.
The frame and back are plastic, and the phone weighs 197 g. It measures 161.0 x 76.5 x 8.3 mm. The buttons sit on a raised strip on the right side, which Samsung calls the Key Island. The power key doubles as the fingerprint reader. The phone has no official water or dust rating. It came in Blue Black, Blue and Yellow, plus Light Blue in some markets such as the Middle East. In the US, only Blue Black was sold.
Performance
The phone runs on the Exynos 1280, a 5 nm octa-core chip. It has two 2.4 GHz cores and six 2.0 GHz cores. The GPU is a Mali-G68. RAM is 6 GB or 8 GB. Storage is 128 GB or 256 GB of UFS 2.2. A microSD slot adds up to 1 TB, but it shares the tray with the second SIM.
In Geekbench 6, retail units typically score about 940 single-core and 2,020 multi-core. Other features include 5G, NFC, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.3 and a USB-C 2.0 port. The phone also keeps a 3.5 mm headphone jack and stereo speakers.
Cameras
The rear has three cameras. The main sensor has 50 MP, an f/1.8 lens and optical image stabilization. It sits next to an 8 MP ultrawide camera and a 2 MP macro camera. The rear cameras record video up to 4K at 30 fps. On the front, there is a 13 MP selfie camera with an f/2.2 lens.
Battery and charging
A 5,000 mAh battery powers the phone. It supports 25 W wired charging over USB-C. There is no wireless charging. Samsung does not include a charger in the box, only a USB-C cable.
Software and updates
The Galaxy A25 5G shipped with Android 14 and One UI 6. Samsung promised four major Android upgrades and five years of security updates. By mid-2026, the phone had reached One UI 8.5 on Android 16, so its last major upgrade is done. Security patches continue until the five-year window ends.
Should you buy the Galaxy A25 5G?
The Galaxy A25 5G suits buyers on a budget who want a 120 Hz AMOLED screen. It also offers a headphone jack and expandable storage. Its update promise is also long for its class. However, it lacks a water resistance rating and wireless charging. Samsung no longer produces it, so new units are hard to find. Buyers who want a current model can look at the Galaxy A26 5G, its direct successor.
