The Samsung Galaxy M54 5G is a large mid-range phone. It appeared on Samsung’s Middle East websites on March 22, 2023. Sales in Brazil started on April 4, 2023, at R$2,999 for the 128GB model. It later reached Indonesia and Malaysia. In India, the same phone is sold as the Samsung Galaxy F54 5G. Samsung never sold the M54 in the US or Europe.
Design and display
The phone has a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen with a 1080 x 2400 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Gorilla Glass 5 protects the front, and reviews describe a glossy plastic body. It measures 164.9 x 77.3 x 8.4 mm and weighs 199 grams. Samsung lists no IP rating, so it is not dust or water resistant. It comes in Dark Blue and Silver. The Indian F54 uses the names Meteor Blue and Stardust Silver for the same two colors.
Performance
Inside is the Exynos 1380, the same 5nm chip as in the Galaxy A54 5G. It has four Cortex-A78 cores at 2.4 GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores. The GPU is a Mali-G68 MP5. Every version has 8GB of RAM, with 128GB or 256GB of storage. A microSD card of up to 1TB fits in the hybrid SIM tray. The phone supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 and NFC.
Cameras
The main camera has a 108MP sensor with an f/1.8 lens and optical image stabilization. An 8MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP macro camera sit next to it. The rear cameras record video at up to 4K and 30 frames per second. On the front, a 32MP selfie camera sits in a small punch hole. Digital zoom reaches 10x, and there is no telephoto lens.
Battery and charging
The battery has a capacity of 6,000mAh. That is more than the 5,000mAh cell of the Galaxy A54 5G. Samsung rates it for up to 23 hours of video playback. Wired charging reaches 25W, but there is no wireless charging. The charger in the box depends on the market. Brazil included one, while early Middle East reports said it was sold separately.
Software and updates
The phone launched with Android 13 and One UI 5.1. Samsung Brazil promised four Android upgrades and five years of security updates. That policy covers updates up to Android 17. The phone also includes Samsung Knox, Voice Focus for calls and a side-mounted fingerprint reader in the power key.
Should you buy the Galaxy M54 5G?
The Galaxy M54 5G suits buyers in its markets who want a big battery and a large AMOLED screen. It shares the chip of the Galaxy A54 5G but drops stereo speakers and water resistance. It also has no headphone jack. The Galaxy M55 5G replaced it in 2024, so check prices of both before you buy.
