The Galaxy S24 FE is the Fan Edition model of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. Samsung announced it on September 26, 2024, and sales started on October 3, 2024. In the US, it launched at $649.99 with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It sits below the Galaxy S24 and S24+ as a cheaper way into the S series.
Design and display
The phone has a flat 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with a 2340 x 1080 resolution. The refresh rate switches between 60Hz and 120Hz, and Samsung rates the peak brightness at 1,900 nits. It is the largest display in the FE series so far. The Galaxy S23 FE had a 6.4-inch panel.
Gorilla Glass Victus+ covers the front and the back, and the frame is aluminum. The body measures 162.0 x 77.3 x 8.0 mm and weighs 213 grams. An IP68 rating covers dust and immersion in fresh water. It comes in Blue, Graphite, Gray, Mint and Yellow.
Performance
Every version uses the Exynos 2400e, including the US model. It is a 4nm chip with a 10-core CPU and an Xclipse 940 GPU. Its fastest core runs at 3.11GHz, slightly below the regular Exynos 2400. All versions pair it with 8GB of RAM and 128GB, 256GB or 512GB of storage. There is no microSD slot. Samsung says the vapor chamber is 1.1 times larger than on the S23 FE.
Cameras
The rear setup has three cameras. The 50MP main camera has an f/1.8 lens and optical stabilization. An 8MP telephoto camera offers 3x optical zoom, also with OIS. In addition, there is a 12MP ultra-wide camera with a 123-degree view.
The front camera has 10MP. The rear cameras can record 8K video at 30fps, while the selfie camera goes up to 4K at 60fps. Samsung’s ProVisual Engine appears in the FE series for the first time.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 4,700mAh, which is 200mAh more than the S23 FE. Wired charging peaks at 25W, and Samsung quotes about 50% in 30 minutes. The phone also supports 15W wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare for accessories. However, there is no charger in the box.
Software and updates
The Galaxy S24 FE shipped with Android 14 and One UI 6.1. It includes Galaxy AI tools such as Circle to Search, Live Translate, Interpreter and Generative Edit. Samsung promises seven OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. Other features include stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and an optical under-display fingerprint reader.
Should you buy the Galaxy S24 FE?
The Galaxy S24 FE suits buyers who want a large screen and a 3x telephoto camera. It also offers very long software support for less than the Galaxy S24+. It also brings wireless charging and IP68 protection at its price. On the other hand, it has only 8GB of RAM and a slower optical fingerprint reader. Its successor, the Galaxy S25 FE, is already on sale, so compare the two before buying.
