The Galaxy S24 Ultra is the top model of the Samsung Galaxy S24 lineup. Samsung announced it at Galaxy Unpacked on January 17, 2024. Sales started on January 31, 2024. In the US, it launched at $1,299.99 with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The phone is now discontinued, and its successor is the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Design and display
The S24 Ultra is the first Galaxy phone with a titanium frame. Its 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen is flatter than before. The QHD+ panel has 1440 x 3120 pixels. The refresh rate adapts from 1Hz to 120Hz, and Samsung rates peak brightness at 2,600 nits.
Corning Gorilla Armor covers the display. Samsung says it cuts reflections by up to 75%. The phone measures 162.3 x 79 x 8.6 mm and weighs 232 to 233 grams. It is rated IP68 and has a built-in S Pen stylus.
Performance
Every S24 Ultra uses a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 tuned for Galaxy phones, in all markets. Its prime core runs at up to 3.39GHz, and the GPU is an Adreno 750. Samsung also improved the vapor chamber cooling compared with the S23 Ultra.
All versions have 12GB of RAM. Storage options are 256GB, 512GB and 1TB, with no microSD slot. The phone also supports Wi-Fi 7.
Cameras
The rear setup has four cameras. The main camera uses a 200MP sensor with an f/1.7 lens and optical stabilization. A new 50MP periscope telephoto camera gives 5x optical zoom.
A 10MP telephoto camera covers 3x zoom, and a 12MP ultrawide camera completes the set. Video recording reaches 8K at 30 frames per second. The 12MP front camera records 4K at up to 60 frames per second.
Battery and charging
The battery has a capacity of 5,000mAh. Wired charging reaches 45W, and Samsung quotes about 65% in 30 minutes. The phone supports 15W wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare. A charger is not included.
Software and updates
The phone launched with Android 14 and One UI 6.1, along with Galaxy AI features. Samsung promises seven Android upgrades and seven years of security updates.
Should you buy the Galaxy S24 Ultra?
The S24 Ultra suits buyers who want a stylus, a 5x periscope camera and a titanium frame together. It is large and heavy at about 233 grams. Charging is no faster than on the S24+. Samsung no longer produces it, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra has taken its place.
