The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 is a clamshell foldable phone. Samsung announced it on July 10, 2024, at Galaxy Unpacked in Paris. It went on sale on July 24, 2024. In the US, the 12GB + 256GB model started at $1,099.99. It sits in the premium flip-phone segment. Samsung no longer sells it on its US store, and the Galaxy Z Flip7 has taken its place.
Design and display
Open, the Flip6 shows a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen. It has a 2640 x 1080 resolution and a 22:9 shape. Its adaptive refresh rate runs from 1 to 120Hz. On the outside sits a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED FlexWindow. It has a 720 x 748 resolution, 306 ppi and a 60Hz refresh rate. It runs widgets, quick replies and some apps without opening the phone.
Folded, the phone measures 85.1 x 71.9 x 14.9 mm. Open, it is 165.1 mm tall and 6.9 mm thin, and it weighs 187 g. The frame and hinge housing use Armor Aluminum, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 covers the outer glass. In addition, the phone is rated IP48. This covers fresh water up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.
Performance
The phone runs on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 tuned for Galaxy phones. Both storage versions, 256GB and 512GB, come with 12GB of RAM. Storage is UFS 4.0, and there is no microSD slot. As a result, this is a flagship-class chip in a pocket-sized body.
Cameras
The rear has two cameras. The new 50MP main camera uses an f/1.8 lens, Dual Pixel autofocus and optical stabilization. Samsung says it gives 2x optical-quality zoom by cropping the sensor. Next to it is a 12MP ultrawide with a 123-degree view. Inside, a 10MP selfie camera sits in a punch hole. FlexCam gains Auto Zoom, which frames the subject on its own when the phone stands half-folded.
Battery and charging
The Flip6 uses a 4,000mAh dual battery, larger than before. Wired charging reaches 25W, which Samsung says gives about 50% in 30 minutes with its 25W adapter. The phone also supports Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 and Wireless PowerShare. However, there is no charger in the box.
Software and updates
It launched with Android 14 and One UI 6.1.1. Galaxy AI tools include Suggested replies on the FlexWindow, Photo Ambient wallpapers and Interpreter. Samsung promises seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates.
Should you buy the Galaxy Z Flip6?
The Flip6 suits buyers who want a compact phone that folds in half. When open, it still offers a large screen. It also fits people who take hands-free photos or video with FlexCam. Keep in mind that it has no telephoto camera and its wired charging is 25W. It is no longer produced, and the Galaxy Z Flip7 is its direct successor.
