The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 is a book-style foldable phone. Samsung announced it on July 10, 2024, at Galaxy Unpacked in Paris. It went on sale on July 24, 2024. In the US, the 12GB + 256GB model started at $1,899.99. It belongs to the premium foldable segment. Samsung no longer sells it on its US store, and the Galaxy Z Fold7 has replaced it.
Design and display
Unfolded, the phone opens to a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main screen. It has a 2160 x 1856 resolution and 374 ppi. Its adaptive refresh rate runs from 1 to 120Hz, and Samsung rates peak brightness at up to 2,600 nits. When closed, you use a 6.3-inch cover screen. It has a 2376 x 968 resolution, 410 ppi and the same 1-120Hz range.
Folded, the Z Fold6 measures 153.5 x 68.1 x 12.1 mm. Unfolded, it is 5.6 mm thin, and it weighs 239 g. The frame and hinge housing use Armor Aluminum, while Gorilla Glass Victus 2 covers the front and back. In addition, the phone is rated IP48. This covers fresh water up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. The phone also works with an S Pen, sold separately.
Performance
Inside is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 tuned for Galaxy phones, paired with 12GB of RAM. Storage options are 256GB, 512GB and 1TB of UFS 4.0, with no microSD slot. Samsung says the vapor chamber is 1.6 times larger than before. This helps the phone hold performance during long gaming sessions. The chip also supports ray tracing in games.
Cameras
The rear setup has three cameras. The main camera uses a 50MP sensor with an f/1.8 lens, Dual Pixel autofocus and optical stabilization. Next to it sits a 12MP ultrawide with a 123-degree view. There is also a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom and OIS. Space Zoom reaches 30x digitally. For selfies, the cover screen has a 10MP camera. The main screen hides a 4MP under-display camera.
Battery and charging
The Z Fold6 uses a 4,400mAh dual battery. Wired charging reaches 25W, which Samsung says gives about 50% in 30 minutes with its 25W adapter. The phone also supports Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 and Wireless PowerShare for charging other devices. However, there is no charger in the box.
Software and updates
The phone launched with Android 14 and One UI 6.1.1. Galaxy AI tools include Note Assist, Circle to Search and Interpreter, which can show translations on both screens. Samsung promises seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. As a result, the software support is long for a foldable.
Should you buy the Galaxy Z Fold6?
The Z Fold6 suits buyers who want a tablet-sized screen in a phone that folds into a pocket. It also fits people who want S Pen support and a 3x telephoto camera on a foldable. Keep in mind that it is no longer produced, and the Galaxy Z Fold7 is its direct successor. Its wired charging speed is also modest at 25W.
