The Xperia 10 V is a compact mid-range phone from Sony. It was announced on May 11, 2023, and went on sale in Europe in June 2023. In Europe, it launched at €449, and in the UK it cost £399. Sony does not sell it in the US. The phone focuses on low weight and a long-lasting battery. It also keeps media extras like stereo speakers and a headphone jack.
Design and display
The body measures 155 x 68 x 8.3 mm and weighs 159 g. At launch, Sony marketed it as the lightest 5G phone with a 5,000 mAh battery. The frame and back are plastic, and the front uses Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. The phone carries IP65 and IP68 ratings for dust and water resistance.
The 6.1-inch OLED panel has a tall 21:9 shape and a 2520 x 1080 resolution. The refresh rate stays at 60 Hz. Sony says the screen is about 1.5 times brighter than on the Xperia 10 IV. Four colors were offered: Black, White, Lavender and Sage Green.
Performance
Inside is the Snapdragon 695, the same chip as in the previous model. It is an older 6 nm mid-range platform with 5G support. European and Japanese models have 6 GB of RAM, while some Asian markets got 8 GB. All versions have 128 GB of storage. A microSD slot adds up to 1 TB more.
Cameras
The rear has three cameras. The main one uses a 48 MP 1/2.0-inch sensor with an f/1.8 lens and optical stabilization. Sony says this sensor is about 1.6 times larger than in the Xperia 10 IV. An 8 MP telephoto lens gives 2x optical zoom, and an 8 MP ultrawide covers a 120-degree view. The front camera has 8 MP and an f/2.0 lens.
Battery and charging
The battery holds 5,000 mAh. Sony rates it for about 34 hours of continuous video playback under its own test conditions. Charging works over USB Power Delivery, but Sony does not list a wattage. There is no wireless charging. No charger comes in the box.
Software and updates
The phone shipped with Android 13. Sony promised two major OS upgrades and three years of security updates. Other features include side sense, a one-handed mode and battery care tools.
For audio, there are front stereo speakers and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The phone also supports LDAC, aptX Adaptive and DSEE Ultimate upscaling. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC and a USB-C 2.0 port. The European model adds eSIM support.
Should you buy the Xperia 10 V?
The Xperia 10 V suits buyers who want a light, narrow phone with long battery life. A headphone jack, a microSD slot and a 2x telephoto camera are also uncommon at this price. However, the Snapdragon 695 is slow for its class, and the screen is limited to 60 Hz. Its three-year security update promise counts from the 2023 launch. Sony replaced it with the Xperia 10 VI in 2024.
