The vivo V27 is a mid-range 5G phone with a curved screen and a camera-focused design. vivo announced it on March 1, 2023, together with the V27 Pro. Sales started in India on March 23, 2023. Other markets followed, including Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, the UAE and South Africa. In India, it launched at ₹32,999 for the 8GB + 128GB version.
Design and display
The V27 has a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen with a 3D curved edge. It runs at up to 120Hz and shows FHD+ resolution (2400 x 1080). vivo quotes a peak brightness of 1300 nits. A small punch-hole cutout in the center holds the selfie camera.
The phone is 7.36 mm thin in Noble Black and 7.4 mm in the other colors. It weighs 180 grams. The back is glass, while the frame is plastic with a metallic finish. vivo sold it in Noble Black, Magic Blue, Flowing Gold and Emerald Green. Magic Blue and Emerald Green have a color-changing glass back that reacts to sunlight. Not every color was sold in every country. For example, India got Noble Black and Magic Blue. There is no official IP rating.
Performance
Inside is the MediaTek Dimensity 7200, a 4nm chip. vivo pairs it with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. Versions include 8GB + 128GB, 8GB + 256GB and 12GB + 256GB. There is no microSD slot. Extended RAM can borrow up to 8GB of storage as virtual memory.
Cameras
The rear setup has three cameras. The main 50MP Sony IMX766V sensor has an f/1.88 lens and optical stabilization. It sits next to an 8MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP macro camera. A ring-shaped Aura Light helps with portraits in low light.
On the front, there is a 50MP selfie camera with autofocus. Its aperture is f/2.45. Both the main and the selfie camera can save full 50MP photos in High Resolution mode.
Battery and charging
The V27 has a 4600 mAh battery. It supports 66W wired charging with the charger in the box. vivo says it charges from 1% to 50% in 19 minutes. There is no wireless charging.
Software and updates
The phone shipped with Funtouch OS 13 based on Android 13. vivo did not announce a fixed number of Android upgrades for it. It is still listed on vivo’s security update page. Other features include NFC in most markets, Bluetooth 5.3, dual-band Wi-Fi and dual nano-SIM slots. The Indian model has no NFC. There is a single speaker and no headphone jack.
Should you buy the vivo V27?
The V27 suits buyers who want a thin phone with a curved 120Hz screen and fast charging. Its 50MP selfie camera with autofocus is a plus for video calls and selfies. On the other hand, it has no water resistance rating, no stereo speakers and no update promise. The V27 was never sold in the US, and in Europe it reached only Russia. Its successor is the vivo V29.
