The Huawei Pura 70 Ultra is the top model of the Pura 70 series. Huawei announced it in China on April 18, 2024, and sales started the same day. The global version followed in early May 2024. In Europe, it costs €1,499 with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. It is a camera-focused flagship that is not sold in the US.
Design and display
The phone measures 162.6 x 75.1 x 8.4 mm and weighs about 226 grams. The back uses a textured faux leather finish, and an aluminum frame holds the body together. Second-generation Kunlun Glass protects the front. The IP68 rating covers water at depths up to 2 meters for 30 minutes.
The 6.8-inch LTPO OLED panel has a resolution of 2844 x 1260 pixels and 460 ppi. Its refresh rate adapts between 1 Hz and 120 Hz. Huawei also uses 1440 Hz PWM dimming, which can help people who are sensitive to flicker.
Performance
Inside is the Kirin 9010, Huawei’s own 7 nm chip. It has one 2.3 GHz core, three 2.18 GHz cores and four 1.55 GHz efficiency cores. The Maleoon 910 GPU handles graphics. The global model comes with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. China also gets a 1 TB version. There is no microSD slot.
The global version works on 4G LTE only, because 5G is limited to the Chinese model. It still offers Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, an IR blaster and USB-C 3.1 Gen 1.
Cameras
The main camera uses a 50 MP 1-inch sensor with a variable f/1.6 to f/4.0 aperture. Its lens extends out of the body when the camera opens, and sensor-shift stabilization reduces shake. A 40 MP ultra-wide camera covers wider scenes. The 50 MP periscope telephoto gives 3.5x optical zoom with OIS, and it also works as a macro camera.
The rear cameras record video in 4K at up to 60 fps. On the front, a 13 MP selfie camera with autofocus also records 4K video.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 5,200 mAh. Wired charging reaches 100 W with Huawei’s SuperCharge adapter, which comes in the box. Wireless charging goes up to 80 W with Huawei’s own stands. The phone can also charge other devices wirelessly.
Software and updates
Outside China, the Pura 70 Ultra runs EMUI 14.2, which is based on Android 12. Chinese units use HarmonyOS 4.2 instead. Google services and the Play Store are not preinstalled, so apps come from Huawei’s AppGallery. Huawei has not published a clear long-term update policy for the global model.
Should you buy the Pura 70 Ultra?
The Pura 70 Ultra suits buyers who care most about photography. The 1-inch retractable main camera and the 3.5x periscope zoom are its main strengths. Fast 100 W wired and 80 W wireless charging add to its appeal. However, the lack of 5G and Google services outside China is a real trade-off. Its successor, the Pura 80 Ultra, arrived in 2025.
