The Huawei Pura 70 is the entry model of the Pura 70 series. Huawei announced it in China on April 18, 2024, and sales began there on April 22. The global version launched in early May 2024. In Europe, it costs €999 with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The phone is not sold in the US.
Design and display
The Pura 70 is smaller than its siblings at 157.6 x 74.3 x 7.95 mm. It weighs about 207 grams. The global colors are Black, White and Pink. An IP68 rating covers water at depths up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.
The 6.6-inch LTPO OLED display has a resolution of 2760 x 1256 pixels and 460 ppi. Its refresh rate adapts between 1 Hz and 120 Hz. Huawei also lists 1440 Hz PWM dimming for the panel.
Performance
The global Pura 70 uses the Kirin 9000S1, according to Huawei’s official specs. Huawei describes it as an octa-core chip. The Pro and Ultra use the Kirin 9010 instead. Global units have 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. In China, 512 GB and 1 TB models are also sold. There is no microSD slot.
The global model supports 4G LTE but not 5G. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and USB-C 3.1 Gen 1.
Cameras
The main camera has a 50 MP sensor with a variable f/1.4 to f/4.0 aperture and OIS. A 13 MP ultra-wide camera handles wide shots. The 12 MP telephoto gives 5x optical zoom, the longest in the series, and it also has OIS. Digital zoom reaches 50x. Rear video goes up to 4K resolution. The 13 MP selfie camera records 4K video as well.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 4,900 mAh. It supports 66 W wired charging, and the adapter is included in the box. Wireless charging reaches 50 W with a compatible Huawei charger. Both speeds are lower than on the Pro and Ultra.
Software and updates
Global units run EMUI 14.2, and Chinese units use HarmonyOS 4.2. Google services are not preinstalled, so apps come from Huawei’s AppGallery. Huawei has not stated a clear update policy for the global version.
Should you buy the Pura 70?
The Pura 70 suits buyers who want a smaller Huawei flagship with a strong main camera. Its 5x telephoto gives more reach than the Pro and Ultra. The 6.6-inch LTPO screen and IP68 rating match its higher price class. However, charging is slower than on its siblings, and the global model lacks 5G and Google services. Its successor is the Pura 80.
