The phone has a 6.7-inch pOLED screen with a 2712 x 1220 resolution and 446 ppi. It refreshes at up to 144Hz and reaches 2,800 nits at peak. The panel supports HDR10+ and 10-bit color. Gorilla Glass Victus covers the front.
The frame is sandblasted aluminum. Peach Fuzz and Forest Grey use a vegan leather back, while Nordic Wood has a real wood back. The body measures 161.09 x 72.38 x 8.59 mm and weighs 197 grams. It is rated IP68 for dust and water.
Performance
A Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 runs the phone. Its fastest CPU core reaches 3.0 GHz, and graphics come from an Adreno 735 GPU. Most markets get 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM with 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. Europe gets a single 16GB and 1TB version. There is no microSD slot.
The USB-C port supports USB 3.1 Gen 2 speeds and DisplayPort 1.4 output. Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 and NFC are included. The phone takes one nano-SIM and one eSIM.
Cameras
The rear has three cameras. The main camera uses a 50MP 1/1.3-inch sensor with an f/1.6 lens and OIS. A 50MP ultrawide covers a 122-degree view and doubles as a macro camera. A 64MP telephoto adds 3x optical zoom with OIS.
The front camera has 50MP and autofocus. Both the rear and front cameras record 4K video at up to 60 fps. The camera colors are Pantone Validated.
Battery and charging
The battery holds 4,500 mAh. It supports 125W TurboPower wired charging, and the charger comes in the box. Wireless charging runs at up to 50W. The phone can also share power with other devices at 10W.
Software and updates
The Edge 50 Ultra shipped with Android 14 and a near-stock interface. Motorola promises three Android upgrades and four years of security updates. Security patches arrive every two months.
Should you buy the Edge 50 Ultra?
The phone suits buyers who want a 3x telephoto camera, fast wired and wireless charging, and a slim body. The 1TB European version also offers a lot of storage for its price. However, its battery is smaller than in many rivals. The update promise is also shorter than on recent Samsung and Google flagships. In addition, the phone is not sold in the US.
