Design and display
The body measures 160.8 x 72.4 x 7.79 mm and weighs 180 g. It has a metal frame and a vegan leather back in Jungle Green and Peach Fuzz. The Koala Grey version uses a vegan suede finish instead. The phone is rated IP68 and also meets MIL-STD-810H tests.
The 6.7-inch pOLED panel has a 2712 x 1220 resolution at 446 ppi. It runs at up to 120 Hz and supports HDR10+. Motorola lists a 1,600-nit HDR peak. Gorilla Glass 5 protects the screen.
Performance
Inside is the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Accelerated Edition. It is a 4 nm chip with eight cores and a top speed of 2.5 GHz. The GPU is an Adreno 644. Storage is UFS 2.2, and there is no microSD slot.
Europe gets 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. In India, Motorola sells a single 8 GB and 256 GB version. Geekbench 6 results for this chip average about 1,040 single-core and 2,920 multi-core points.
Cameras
The rear has three cameras. The main one uses a 50 MP sensor with an f/1.8 lens and optical image stabilization. A 13 MP ultrawide camera covers a 120-degree view and also works as a macro camera. A 10 MP telephoto camera offers 3x optical zoom and has its own stabilization.
On the front, there is a 32 MP selfie camera with autofocus. Both the main and the front camera can record 4K video at 30 fps. The main camera also records slow motion at up to 240 fps in Full HD.
Battery and charging
The battery holds 5,000 mAh. It supports 68 W TurboPower wired charging and 15 W wireless charging. In India, a 68 W charger comes in the box. European reviewers found only a cable, a SIM tool and a case in the box.
Software and updates
The Edge 50 launched with Android 14. Motorola promises three years of security updates. The number of Android upgrades differs by source. Motorola India lists two, while Notebookcheck reports three, up to Android 17.
Other features include stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and an under-display fingerprint reader. It also has NFC, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. The USB-C port runs at USB 2.0 speed, and there is no headphone jack.
Should you buy the Motorola Edge 50?
The Edge 50 suits buyers who want a thin and light phone with a real 3x telephoto camera. It also offers wireless charging, IP68 protection and a large battery at a mid-range price. On the other hand, its update promise is shorter than that of the cheaper Edge 50 Neo. Buyers who need fast data transfer should note the USB 2.0 port.
