The Motorola Edge+ (2023) is a flagship phone for the US and Canada. Motorola introduced it on May 2, 2023. It launched unlocked at $799.99 with 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. In Canada, it cost CAD 1,299. The same hardware first appeared in China as the Moto X40 in December 2022. Global markets got it as the Edge 40 Pro. Motorola no longer sells the phone.
Design and display
The phone has a sandblasted aluminum frame. Gorilla Glass Victus covers the front and back, and both sides curve on all four edges. It measures 8.59 mm thick and weighs 203 g. It is rated IP68 for dust and water resistance. In the US and Canada, it came only in Interstellar Black with a matte glass back.
The 6.67-inch pOLED display has a 2400 x 1080 resolution and 394 ppi. It refreshes at up to 165 Hz and supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. An optical fingerprint reader sits under the screen.
Performance
Inside is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, a 4 nm flagship chip with an Adreno 740 GPU. It pairs with 8 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512 GB of UFS 4.0 storage. Some carrier versions have 256 GB. There is no microSD slot.
Cameras
The rear setup has three cameras. The 50 MP main camera uses a 1/1.5-inch sensor, an f/1.8 lens, and optical stabilization. A 50 MP ultrawide camera covers 114 degrees and also works as a macro camera. A 12 MP telephoto camera offers 2x optical zoom for portraits.
The main camera records video up to 8K at 30 fps. Horizon Lock keeps footage level while you move. On the front, a 60 MP camera records 4K video at up to 60 fps.
Battery and charging
The battery holds 5,100 mAh. That is more than the 4,600 mAh cell in the Edge 40 Pro and Moto X40. The phone supports 68W wired charging, and the charger comes in the box. It also charges wirelessly at 15W and shares 5W with other devices. The Edge 40 Pro and Moto X40 support faster 125W wired charging.
Software and updates
The Edge+ (2023) shipped with Android 13 and Motorola’s My UX. Motorola promised three Android upgrades and four years of bi-monthly security updates. Connectivity includes 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and a USB-C 3.2 port. It uses a physical SIM plus eSIM.
Should you buy the Edge+ (2023)?
The phone suits buyers who want flagship speed, a 165 Hz curved screen, and a large battery. It also includes the charger and IP68 protection. However, it is no longer produced. Motorola has not named a direct US successor. If you buy one now, check that it is new, unlocked, and still within its update window.
