The Motorola Moto E13 is an entry-level 4G phone. Motorola announced it on January 24, 2023, together with the Moto G13, G23, G53 5G and G73 5G. In Europe, it launched at €119.90 with 2 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. It was sold in Europe, the UK, India, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa. The phone is now discontinued, and the Moto E14 replaced it in 2024.
Design and display
The Moto E13 has a 6.5-inch IPS LCD with HD+ resolution (1600 x 720 pixels) and 269 ppi. The refresh rate is 60 Hz, and a small teardrop notch holds the selfie camera. The body measures 164.19 x 74.95 x 8.47 mm and weighs 179.5 grams. The back is made of PMMA, a type of acrylic plastic. The phone has an IP52 rating for light splashes and dust. It came in Cosmic Black, Aurora Green and Creamy White. Later, India also got a Sky Blue version.
Performance
Inside is the Unisoc T606, a 12 nm chip with two Cortex-A75 and six Cortex-A55 cores. All eight cores run at up to 1.6 GHz, and graphics come from a Mali-G57 MP1 GPU. Europe got 2 GB of RAM and 64 GB of eMMC storage. In India, Motorola also sold 4 GB / 64 GB and 8 GB / 128 GB versions. A microSD slot adds up to 1 TB of storage. The phone supports 4G LTE but not 5G.
Cameras
There is a single 13 MP rear camera with an f/2.2 lens and phase-detection autofocus. It records video in Full HD at 30 fps. The front camera has 5 MP and also records 1080p video at 30 fps. Shooting modes include portrait, panorama and timelapse.
Battery and charging
The battery holds 5,000 mAh. Charging is limited to 10 W over USB-C 2.0. In India, a 10 W charger and a clear case come in the box.
Software and updates
The Moto E13 shipped with Android 13 (Go edition), a lighter version of Android for phones with little memory. Motorola did not publish an OS upgrade or security update promise for this model. Security is handled by face unlock, because the phone has no fingerprint sensor. Other features include a 3.5 mm headphone jack, FM radio, dual-band Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0 and dual Nano-SIM slots. There is no NFC. The single speaker supports Dolby Atmos.
Should you buy the Moto E13?
The Moto E13 suits buyers who need a basic phone for calls, messages and light apps. Its large battery, headphone jack and expandable storage are useful at this price. However, the HD display, slow charging and 2 GB of RAM in Europe limit what it can do. It is no longer produced, so new units are hard to find. The Moto E14 is its direct successor, with a 90 Hz display and 15 W charging.
