The nubia Z70S Ultra is a camera-focused flagship phone. It launched in China on April 28, 2025, and global pre-orders opened on May 13, 2025. nubia’s EU store currently lists it from €599. It updates the Z70 Ultra with a larger main sensor, a bigger battery and a retro camera-style design.
Design and display
The look borrows from classic rangefinder cameras. Global colors are Classic Black and Antique Brown, each with contrasting top and bottom panels. The body measures 164.3 x 77.1 x 8.6 mm and weighs 228 grams, the same as the Z70 Ultra. It is rated IP68 and IP69 against water and dust.
The 6.85-inch AMOLED screen has a 2688 x 1216 resolution and about 430 ppi. It refreshes at up to 144Hz and covers 100% of DCI-P3. There is no punch-hole, since the 16MP selfie camera sits under the display. A two-stage camera button and a slider switch sit on the frame.
Performance
The phone runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Global models offer 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM with 256GB or 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. A 24GB/1TB version is sold only in China. There is no microSD slot. Reviewers saw performance drop under long heavy loads as the phone warms up.
Cameras
The main camera is a 50MP OmniVision OV50H with a 1/1.3-inch sensor. It has a 35mm focal length, an f/1.7 aperture and OIS. Unlike the Z70 Ultra, it has a fixed aperture rather than a variable one.
A 50MP ultrawide covers 122 degrees and shoots macro from 2.5 cm. A 64MP telephoto at 70mm adds OIS. Laser and flicker sensors help focus and exposure. nubia also sells an optional Retro Kit with a grip and dials for camera-style handling.
Battery and charging
The battery grows to 6,600mAh, up from 6,150mAh on the Z70 Ultra. Wired charging reaches 80W with nubia’s own charger. However, no charger comes in the box this time. There is no wireless charging.
Software and updates
The phone ships with Nebula AIOS 1.5 based on Android 15. nubia has not published a clear policy for major Android upgrades. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC and an infrared sensor. It supports two nano-SIM cards but no eSIM.
Should you buy the Z70S Ultra?
The Z70S Ultra fits buyers who care about photos and want a 35mm main camera with a large sensor. The full screen and big battery are also strong points. On the other hand, it lacks wireless charging and eSIM, and the charger costs extra. For Z70 Ultra owners, the chip and screen stay the same. The upgrade centers on the camera and battery.
