The REDMI Note 13 5G is an affordable 5G phone. It pairs a 120 Hz AMOLED screen with a 108 MP camera. Xiaomi announced it in China on September 21, 2023. The global launch followed on January 15, 2024. In Europe, it started at €279.90 with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. It is the 5G version of the REDMI Note 13, which is sold alongside it with 4G only.
Design and display
The phone has a flat 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels. The refresh rate goes up to 120 Hz. Xiaomi rates the peak brightness at 1,000 nits, and the screen uses 1920 Hz PWM dimming. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protects the front.
The body is 7.6 mm thick and weighs 174.5 g. The frame and back are plastic. The phone has an IP54 rating for splash and dust protection. It comes in Graphite Black, Arctic White and Ocean Teal.
Performance
Inside is the MediaTek Dimensity 6080, a 6 nm chip with eight cores up to 2.4 GHz. It works with a Mali-G57 GPU, LPDDR4X memory and UFS 2.2 storage. You can choose 6 GB with 128 GB or 8 GB with 256 GB. A hybrid slot takes a microSD card or a second SIM.
Compared with the 4G Note 13, the main difference is the chip. The 4G model uses a Snapdragon 685 and has no 5G.
Cameras
The rear setup has three cameras. The 108 MP main camera has an f/1.7 lens but no optical stabilization. An 8 MP ultrawide and a 2 MP macro camera complete the set. Video tops out at 1080p and 30 fps. On the front, there is a 16 MP selfie camera.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 5,000 mAh. It supports 33 W wired charging, and the charger comes in the box in most markets. There is no wireless charging. The USB-C port runs at USB 2.0 speed.
Software and updates
The phone shipped with MIUI 14 based on Android 13. It has since moved to Xiaomi HyperOS. Notebookcheck reports two Android upgrades, up to Android 15. Xiaomi lists the end of security support in January 2028.
It also has a side fingerprint sensor and an IR blaster. NFC and a 3.5 mm headphone jack are on board too. It supports Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.3. Audio comes from a single loudspeaker.
Should you buy the REDMI Note 13 5G?
The Note 13 5G suits buyers who want 5G and an AMOLED screen on a small budget. The microSD slot and headphone jack help people with large media libraries. The camera has no stabilization, and video stops at 1080p. Its successor, the REDMI Note 14 5G, is newer and gets software support for longer.
