The Samsung Galaxy A24 is a budget 4G phone from the 2023 Galaxy A lineup. It first appeared on Samsung’s Vietnamese website on April 19, 2023, and went on sale there later that month. Samsung later brought it to South Korea, where it launched at 396,000 won. The phone was not sold in the US. Samsung also published no launch price for Germany, France or the UK.
Design and display
The Galaxy A24 has a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED panel with Full HD+ resolution (1080 x 2340). It refreshes at up to 90Hz and reaches up to 1,000 nits of peak brightness, according to Samsung. A small teardrop notch holds the selfie camera.
The phone measures 162.1 x 77.6 x 8.3 mm and weighs 195 grams. Each rear camera sits in its own ring on a flat back. Samsung sold it in Black, Light Green, Dark Red and Silver. Not every market got every color. Vietnam had only Black and Light Green, while South Korea offered Black, Light Green and Dark Red.
Performance
Inside is the MediaTek Helio G99, a 6nm octa-core chip with two Cortex-A76 cores at 2.2 GHz. Samsung says its CPU is up to 1.5 times faster than the one in the predecessor. The GPU is a Mali-G57 MC2.
Memory options are 4 GB, 6 GB and 8 GB of RAM, depending on the market. Every version has 128 GB of storage. A microSD slot adds up to 1 TB, and it sits next to two nano-SIM slots.
Cameras
The rear setup has three cameras. The 50MP f/1.8 main camera uses optical image stabilization. It is joined by a 5MP f/2.2 ultrawide and a 2MP f/2.4 macro camera. The front camera is 13MP with an f/2.2 lens.
Video tops out at 1080p and 30 fps on both sides. Slow motion is available at 120 fps in HD resolution.
Battery and charging
A 5,000mAh battery powers the phone. It supports 25W wired charging, and Samsung says a 30-minute charge reaches about 50%. There is no wireless charging. Reviews note that the charger is not included in the box.
Software and updates
The Galaxy A24 shipped with Android 13 and One UI 5.1. Samsung promised four OS upgrades and five years of security updates. That policy covers the phone up to Android 17 and security patches into 2028.
Other features include a 3.5 mm headphone jack, NFC in many markets, Bluetooth 5.3 and dual-band Wi-Fi 5. The fingerprint reader is built into the side key. There is no official water resistance rating.
Should you buy the Galaxy A24?
The Galaxy A24 suits buyers on a small budget. It offers an AMOLED screen, a stabilized main camera and long software support. It also keeps the headphone jack and the microSD slot. However, it has no 5G, and video is limited to 1080p. Samsung has since released the Galaxy A25 5G as its successor. If you need 5G, that newer model is the more current option.
