The Galaxy A33 5G is a mid-range phone from Samsung. It was announced on March 17, 2022, alongside the Galaxy A53 5G. Samsung started global sales on April 22, 2022, and some markets got it a few weeks earlier. It was not sold in the US. In Europe, it launched at €369 for the 6 GB / 128 GB version. Samsung no longer sells it, and the Galaxy A34 5G took its place in 2023.
Design and display
The phone has a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED panel with a 1080 x 2400 resolution. The refresh rate goes up to 90Hz, and a small notch holds the selfie camera. Gorilla Glass 5 protects the front.
The frame and the matte back are made of plastic. The phone weighs 186 g and is 8.1 mm thick. It carries an IP67 rating for dust and water. Samsung sold it in four colors: Awesome Black, Awesome White, Awesome Blue and Awesome Peach. In South Korea, only the black, white and blue models were offered.
Performance
Inside is the Exynos 1280, a 5nm chip. It has two 2.4 GHz cores and six 2.0 GHz cores. The Mali-G68 MP4 handles graphics. Versions with 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM were sold, both with 128 GB of UFS 2.2 storage. A 256 GB model also appeared in some Asian markets. A microSD slot adds up to 1 TB, but it shares space with the second SIM.
Cameras
The rear setup has four cameras. The 48MP main camera has an f/1.8 lens and optical stabilization. An 8MP ultrawide, a 5MP macro and a 2MP depth camera join it. The phone records rear video in 4K at 30 fps.
On the front, there is a 13MP selfie camera with an f/2.2 lens. It can also record 4K video at 30 fps.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 5,000mAh. Samsung rates it for up to two days of use. Wired charging tops out at 25W, but the box has no charger. There is no wireless charging.
Software and updates
The Galaxy A33 5G shipped with Android 12 and One UI 4.1. Samsung promised four Android upgrades and five years of security updates. The UK support page lists security updates until March 31, 2027.
Other features include stereo speakers, NFC and an optical fingerprint reader under the display. Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1 cover wireless links. There is no 3.5 mm headphone jack, a first for Samsung’s A3x line.
Should you buy the Galaxy A33 5G?
This phone is no longer produced, so new units are hard to find. It still suits buyers who want a dust and water rating and a large battery on a budget. Expandable storage and long software support add to that. However, it lacks wireless charging and a headphone jack. Its 90Hz screen is slower than many newer mid-range phones. If you want a current model, the Galaxy A34 5G is its direct successor.
