The Samsung Galaxy A34 5G is a mid-range phone. Samsung announced it on March 15, 2023, together with the Galaxy A54 5G. Sales began in Europe and Southeast Asia in March 2023. In Germany, it launched at €389 for the 6 GB / 128 GB version. The phone was not sold in the US. Samsung no longer sells it, and its direct successor is the Galaxy A35 5G.
Design and display
The phone has a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 1080 x 2340 resolution. It refreshes at up to 120Hz. Samsung’s Vision Booster raises the peak brightness to 1,000 nits for outdoor use. Gorilla Glass 5 protects the front, while the frame and back are plastic.
The body measures 161.3 x 78.1 x 8.2 mm and weighs 199 g. It carries an IP67 rating for dust and water. Samsung sold it in four colors: Awesome Lime, Awesome Graphite, Awesome Violet and Awesome Silver. The selfie camera sits in a small notch at the top of the screen.
Performance
Inside is the MediaTek Dimensity 1080 built on a 6 nm process. It has two Cortex-A78 cores at 2.6 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores. A Mali-G68 MC4 handles graphics. It comes with 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM. Storage is 128 GB or 256 GB of UFS 2.2.
A microSD slot adds up to 1 TB of storage. The tray takes either two nano-SIM cards or one SIM and a memory card. There is no eSIM support. Connectivity includes 5G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and a USB-C 2.0 port.
Cameras
The rear setup has three cameras. The 48 MP main camera has an f/1.8 lens and optical image stabilization. It is joined by an 8 MP ultrawide and a 5 MP macro camera. Compared with the Galaxy A33 5G, the depth sensor is gone.
The front camera has 13 MP. Both the main camera and the selfie camera record video in 4K at 30 fps.
Battery and charging
A 5,000 mAh battery powers the phone. Wired charging tops out at 25W. Wireless charging is not supported. Samsung does not include a charger in the box, only a USB-C cable.
Software and updates
The Galaxy A34 5G shipped with Android 13 and One UI 5.1. Samsung promised four major Android upgrades and five years of security updates. Other features include stereo speakers and an optical fingerprint reader under the display. There is no headphone jack.
Should you buy the Galaxy A34 5G?
The Galaxy A34 5G is no longer produced, and Samsung has replaced it with the Galaxy A35 5G. It still suits buyers who find a new unit at a fair price. They get a bright 120Hz OLED screen, IP67 protection, stereo speakers and a microSD slot. Security updates are planned to run into 2028.
Buyers who want faster charging, wireless charging or an eSIM should look elsewhere. The plastic build and the 25W charging speed are the main trade-offs.
