The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 is a compact flip-style foldable phone. Samsung announced it on August 10, 2022, and sales started on August 26, 2022. The US launch price was $999.99 for the version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. In Germany, the same version launched at €1,099. Samsung no longer sells the phone in its US store, and the Galaxy Z Flip5 replaced it in 2023.
Design and display
Unfolded, the phone shows a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main screen with a 2640 x 1080 resolution. Its adaptive refresh rate runs from 1 Hz to 120 Hz. When the phone is closed, a 1.9-inch Super AMOLED cover screen shows the time, notifications and a camera preview.
The frame and hinge cover use Armor Aluminum. Gorilla Glass Victus+ protects the cover screen and the back. Folded, the phone measures 84.9 x 71.9 x 17.1 mm, and it weighs 187 g. It has an IPX8 water rating, but Samsung states that it is not dust-resistant.
The standard colors were Bora Purple, Graphite, Pink Gold and Blue. In some markets, a Bespoke Edition let buyers mix Yellow, White, Navy, Khaki or Red glass panels. The frame came in silver, black or gold. In late 2022, Samsung also released a limited Maison Margiela Edition.
Performance
The Galaxy Z Flip4 runs on the 4 nm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Its fastest CPU core reaches 3.18 GHz. Every version has 8 GB of RAM, paired with 128 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB of storage. There is no microSD card slot.
Connectivity includes 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and a USB-C 2.0 port. The SIM setup combines one nano-SIM with an eSIM. Stereo speakers handle audio, and there is no headphone jack.
Cameras
The rear has two 12 MP cameras. The main camera has an f/1.8 lens, Dual Pixel autofocus and optical image stabilization. The ultrawide camera has an f/2.2 lens and a 123-degree field of view. Rear video goes up to 4K at 60 fps.
Inside, a 10 MP f/2.4 camera sits in a hole in the main screen. The hinge holds the phone half-open, so it can stand on a table for hands-free photos and video calls.
Battery and charging
A 3,700 mAh dual battery powers the phone, up from 3,300 mAh in the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G. Wired charging reaches 25 W. Samsung says this fills about half the battery in around 30 minutes. The phone also supports wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare for earbuds or a watch. A charger is not in the box, as Samsung sells the 25 W adapter separately.
Software and updates
The phone launched with Android 12 and One UI 4.1.1. Samsung promised four Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates. In 2026, Samsung moved it to quarterly security updates, which usually marks the final period of support.
Should you buy the Galaxy Z Flip4?
The Galaxy Z Flip4 suits buyers who want a phone that folds into a small square for a pocket or bag. It offers a flagship chip, stereo speakers and water resistance. However, it has no dust rating, a small cover screen and a modest battery. Samsung no longer sells it, and the Galaxy Z Flip5 is its direct successor. Buyers should keep in mind that its update period ends soon.
