The Motorola Edge+ (2022) was the brand’s flagship phone for the US in 2022. Motorola announced it on February 24, 2022, and sales started on March 24, 2022. The unlocked model cost $999.99, with a launch offer of $899.99. Verizon sold its own Edge+ 5G UW version with mmWave 5G for $849.99. Outside the US, the same phone is sold as the Motorola Edge 30 Pro. The Edge+ (2022) is now discontinued, and its US product page no longer exists.
Design and display
The phone has a 6.7-inch OLED screen with 2400 x 1080 resolution. The panel runs at up to 144Hz and supports 10-bit color and HDR10+. Gorilla Glass 3 covers the front, and Gorilla Glass 5 covers the back. The frame is plastic.
It measures 163.06 x 75.95 x 8.79 mm and weighs 196 grams. The body has an IP52 rating, so it handles light splashes but not submersion. Motorola sold it in two colors: Cosmos Blue and Stardust White. The phone also works with an optional active stylus.
Performance
Inside is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, Qualcomm’s top chip of early 2022. It pairs with LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.1 storage. The unlocked model has 512GB of storage. Verizon offered 8GB with 128GB and 12GB with 256GB. There is no microSD slot.
A USB-C 3.1 port supports DisplayPort 1.4 output. This lets the phone run Motorola’s Ready For desktop and TV modes on an external screen.
Cameras
The rear setup has three cameras. The main camera uses a 50MP 1/1.5-inch sensor with an f/1.8 lens and optical stabilization. The 50MP ultrawide camera has a 114-degree view and doubles as a macro camera. A 2MP depth sensor completes the set. There is no telephoto camera.
On the front, a 60MP selfie camera sits in a punch-hole cutout. The main camera records video in up to 8K at 24fps or 4K at 60fps. It can also save photos in RAW format.
Battery and charging
The battery holds 4,800mAh. In the US, the phone supports 30W wired charging, and a 30W charger comes in the box. It also offers 15W wireless charging and 5W reverse wireless charging for accessories. The Edge 30 Pro sold in other markets supports faster 68W wired charging.
Software and updates
The Edge+ (2022) launched with Android 12 and Motorola’s My UX interface. Motorola promised two Android version upgrades and three years of security updates. Other features include Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and stereo speakers tuned by Dolby Atmos. There is no headphone jack.
Should you buy the Edge+ (2022)?
The phone is no longer produced, and new units are hard to find. Its successor is the Edge+ (2023). The Edge+ (2022) suits buyers who find a good deal on a used or renewed unit. They get a 144Hz screen, a flagship chip, wireless charging and a 60MP selfie camera. However, its software support has ended, and it lacks a telephoto camera and full water resistance.
