The Moto G Stylus 5G (2024) is a mid-range phone from Motorola with a built-in stylus. Motorola announced it on May 9, 2024, and sales began on May 30, 2024. It launched unlocked in the US at $399.99 and in Canada at CAD 499.99. Motorola sells the Stylus line mainly in North America.
Design and display
The phone has a 6.7-inch pOLED screen with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels. That works out to 395 pixels per inch. The panel refreshes at up to 120Hz and reaches 1,200 nits at peak. Corning Gorilla Glass 3 covers the front.
The back has a vegan leather finish, and the phone comes in Scarlet Wave and Caramel Latte. It measures 162.56 x 74.75 x 8.3 mm and weighs 190 grams. An IP52 rating gives it basic protection against splashes, not submersion. Motorola says the 2024 stylus has a larger contact area and new software shortcuts.
Performance
A Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 built on a 4 nm process powers the phone. Its CPU pairs four Cortex-A78 cores at 2.2 GHz with four Cortex-A55 cores. The GPU is an Adreno 710. The phone has 8GB of RAM, double the 4GB of the 2023 model. Storage options are 128GB and 256GB, and a microSD slot accepts cards up to 2TB.
Cameras
The main rear camera uses a 50MP sensor with an f/1.8 lens and optical image stabilization. A 13MP ultrawide camera with a 120-degree field of view also handles macro shots. For selfies, the phone uses a 32MP front camera. Both rear and front cameras record video at up to 1080p and 60 frames per second.
Battery and charging
The 5,000mAh battery supports 30W TurboPower wired charging. The phone also charges wirelessly at up to 15W. The box includes a USB-C cable but no charger.
Software and updates
The phone shipped with Android 14. Motorola promised one major OS upgrade, to Android 15. It also committed to three years of bi-monthly security updates. Other features include NFC, a 3.5mm headphone jack, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and Wi-Fi 5. It takes one Nano-SIM and an eSIM.
Should you buy the Moto G Stylus 5G (2024)?
This phone suits buyers who want a built-in pen for notes, sketches and signatures. It also fits people who still use wired headphones or microSD cards. However, its update policy is short, and Android 15 is its last major version. The Moto G Stylus (2025) replaces it with a faster chip, IP68 and 68W charging. Still, Motorola continues to sell the 2024 model in the US.
