The Moto G13 is a budget 4G phone from Motorola. It was announced on January 24, 2023, together with the Moto G23, Moto G53 and Moto G73. The phone went on sale in Europe the same day. In Germany, it launched at €179.99 with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. Motorola later brought it to India in March 2023. The Moto G14 replaced it in August 2023.
Design and display
The Moto G13 has a flat 6.5-inch LCD panel with 1600 x 720 pixels. The refresh rate goes up to 90 Hz, which keeps scrolling smooth. Panda Glass covers the screen, and a small punch-hole holds the front camera.
The back is made of PMMA, a type of acrylic plastic. The phone measures 162.7 x 74.66 x 8.19 mm and weighs 183 g. It carries an IP52 rating, so it can handle light splashes and dust. In Europe, it came in Matte Charcoal, Blue Lavender and Rose Gold. India received only Matte Charcoal and Lavender Blue.
Performance
Inside is the octa-core MediaTek Helio G85, with two Cortex-A75 cores at up to 2.0 GHz. A Mali-G52 MC2 GPU handles graphics. Every version has 4 GB of RAM. Storage is 128 GB in Europe, and India also got a 64 GB model.
A dedicated microSD slot accepts cards up to 512 GB. You can use it together with two nano-SIM cards. The European model adds NFC for contactless payments, while the Indian model lacks it.
Cameras
The rear setup has three cameras. The main sensor has 50 MP, an f/1.8 lens and Quad Pixel technology with PDAF. It is joined by a 2 MP macro camera and a 2 MP depth sensor. There is no optical stabilization and no ultrawide lens.
The main camera records video at up to 1080p and 60 fps. On the front, an 8 MP f/2.0 camera handles selfies and 1080p video at 30 fps.
Battery and charging
The battery has a capacity of 5,000 mAh. Motorola rates it for up to two days of use. Charging is limited to 10 W, and a 10 W charger comes in the box.
Other features include stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. A fingerprint reader sits in the power button, and face unlock is also available.
Software and updates
The Moto G13 shipped with Android 13 and Motorola’s clean My UX interface. It includes Moto gestures and ThinkShield security features. Motorola did not publish a clear update promise for this model at launch.
Should you buy the Moto G13?
The Moto G13 suits buyers who want a cheap phone with long battery life. It also offers NFC in Europe, a 90 Hz screen, a headphone jack and expandable storage. On the other hand, it has no 5G, no ultrawide camera and slow 10 W charging. The Moto G14 is its official successor, so new buyers should compare both models.
