The Motorola Moto G56 5G is a budget phone that Motorola announced on May 29, 2025. It replaced the Moto G55 and focuses on durability, a large 120 Hz screen and a 5,200 mAh battery. In Europe, it launched at €250 for the 8 GB / 256 GB model. In the UK, the price was £199.99. The phone is not sold in the US. Motorola has since introduced the Moto G57 as its successor.
Design and display
The Moto G56 has a 6.72-inch LCD panel with a 2400 x 1080 resolution and 391 ppi. The refresh rate goes up to 120 Hz. Peak brightness is rated at 1,000 nits. Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protects the front.
The back has a soft faux leather finish that gives a good grip. The phone carries both IP68 and IP69 ratings. In addition, Motorola says it passed MIL-STD-810H tests, including drops from 1.2 meters. It measures 8.35 mm thick and weighs 200 grams. Colors are Black Oyster, Gray Mist, Dazzling Blue and Dill.
Performance
Inside is the MediaTek Dimensity 7060, a 6 nm chip with two 2.6 GHz performance cores and an IMG BXM-8-256 GPU. In Europe, the phone comes with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. A microSD slot adds up to 2 TB more. Some markets also get a 4 GB / 128 GB version.
Reviewers describe the performance as smooth for daily tasks and light gaming. However, Tech Advisor noted some lag at times.
Cameras
The rear setup has two cameras. The main one uses a 50 MP Sony LYTIA 600 sensor with an f/1.8 lens. It works with an 8 MP ultrawide camera. There is no optical stabilization, and video tops out at 1080p at 60 fps. On the front, a 32 MP camera handles selfies and video calls.

The battery has a typical capacity of 5,200 mAh. It supports 30 W wired charging, but the box has no charger. Notebookcheck measured 18.5 hours in its Wi-Fi test and a full charge in about 78 minutes. There is no wireless charging.
Software and updates
The phone shipped with Android 15 and a light Motorola interface. For the 8 GB model, Motorola promises two Android upgrades and four years of security updates until May 2029. Reports say the 4 GB model gets one upgrade and three years of security patches.
Other features include stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and eSIM support. Wi-Fi is limited to Wi-Fi 5.
Should you buy the Moto G56?
The Moto G56 suits buyers who want a tough, water-resistant phone on a small budget. Its IP69 rating, headphone jack and microSD slot are rare at this price. Battery life is also a strong point.
On the other hand, it uses an LCD instead of OLED and has no 4K video. It also gets only two OS upgrades. If you need newer hardware, look at the Moto G57.
