The Moto G86 is a mid-range phone from Motorola, sold in Europe as the moto g86 5G. Motorola announced it on May 29, 2025, together with the Moto G86 Power and Moto G56. In Europe, it launched at €299.99 for the 8GB + 256GB model. It is not sold in the US. The phone focuses on a bright OLED screen and a tough, water-resistant body.
Design and display
The front is a 6.67-inch pOLED panel with a 2712 x 1220 resolution and 446 ppi. It refreshes at up to 120Hz and supports HDR10+ with 10-bit color. Motorola rates its peak brightness at 4,500 nits, which is very high for this price. Corning Gorilla Glass 7i covers the screen.
The frame is plastic, and the back has a soft vegan leather finish. The phone is 7.87 mm thin and weighs 185 grams. It carries IP68 and IP69 ratings, and Motorola tested it against MIL-STD-810H procedures. Four Pantone colors are offered: Cosmic Sky, Chrysanthemum, Golden Cypress and Spellbound.
Performance
The phone runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 7300, a 4nm chip with eight cores. It pairs with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage in Europe. Motorola says other markets get up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. There is no microSD slot. RAM Boost can add virtual memory from storage. Connectivity includes 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC and a USB-C 2.0 port.
Cameras
The main rear camera has 50 megapixels and a Sony LYTIA 600 sensor. It uses an f/1.88 lens and optical image stabilization. An 8-megapixel ultrawide camera with a 118-degree view also handles macro shots. On the front, there is a 32-megapixel selfie camera. Both the rear and front cameras record 4K video at 30 fps.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 5,200mAh. Motorola rates it for up to 41 hours of mixed use. Wired charging tops out at 30W with a TurboPower charger. There is no wireless charging. In Europe, the box includes a cable and a protective case, but no charger.
Software and updates
The Moto G86 ships with Android 15. Motorola keeps the software close to stock and adds its own features through the Moto app. The phone is promised two Android upgrades and four years of security patches.
Should you buy the Moto G86?
The Moto G86 suits buyers who want a bright screen and a durable body at a mid-range price. Its IP68 and IP69 ratings and MIL-STD-810H testing add peace of mind. Stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos help with video. On the other hand, the chip is only average for demanding games. The update promise is also shorter than some rivals offer. If battery life matters most, the Moto G86 Power adds a larger 6,720mAh cell in a slightly thicker body.
