The Samsung Galaxy A54 5G is a mid-range phone from 2023. Samsung announced it on March 15, 2023, together with the Galaxy A34 5G. In the US, it launched at $449 with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. In Germany, the 8GB and 128GB version cost €489. The phone is now discontinued, and the Galaxy A55 5G replaced it in 2024. In South Korea, the same phone was sold as the Galaxy Quantum4.
Design and display
The Galaxy A54 5G has a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 1080 x 2340 resolution. The refresh rate goes up to 120Hz. Samsung rates the peak brightness at 1,000 nits, and Vision Booster helps in sunlight. Gorilla Glass 5 covers both the front and the back. The frame is plastic, and the body has an IP67 rating against dust and water. The phone measures 158.2 x 76.7 x 8.2 mm and weighs 202 grams. It came in four colors: Awesome Lime, Awesome Graphite, Awesome Violet and Awesome White. The US got only Awesome Graphite and Awesome Violet at launch.
Performance
Inside is the Exynos 1380, an octa-core chip built on a 5 nm process. It pairs four Cortex-A78 cores at 2.4 GHz with four Cortex-A55 cores. The GPU is a Mali-G68 MP5. Versions with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage were sold. A microSD slot adds up to 1TB, but it shares space with the second SIM card. The phone also supports eSIM, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 and NFC.
Cameras
The rear setup has three cameras. The 50MP main camera has an f/1.8 lens and optical image stabilization. Next to it sit a 12MP ultrawide camera and a 5MP macro camera. On the front, a 32MP selfie camera sits in a small hole in the screen. Samsung also improved video stabilization compared with the previous model.
Battery and charging
The battery has a typical capacity of 5,000mAh. Wired charging tops out at 25W, while chargers without PPS support charge it at 15W. There is no wireless charging. A charger is not included in the box, so you get only a USB-C cable.
Software and updates
The Galaxy A54 5G shipped with Android 13 and One UI 5.1. Samsung promised four Android upgrades and five years of security updates. As a result, the phone has already moved to Android 16 with One UI 8. Security support is planned to continue into 2028.
Should you buy the Galaxy A54 5G?
The Galaxy A54 5G suits buyers who want a bright 120Hz screen, a water-resistant body and a microSD slot. Its long update promise still matters for a phone from 2023. However, Samsung no longer produces it, and new units are hard to find. If you want a newer model in the same line, look at the Galaxy A55 5G, its direct successor.
